Advent 2 - Peace

Sunday, December 8

The second candle to be lit in the Advent wreath is called the “Candle of Peace.” During this second week of Advent, we reflect on our lives and orient ourselves toward Christ’s coming, preparing our hearts to receive Him anew.

In the tender compassion of our God the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,

and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

The Song of Zechariah

Luke 1:78-79

St Lucia

On Sunday, Dec 15 at the 10:00 service, we will have a procession of St. Lucia. Under the direction of Tami Jones, the children of St. Andrew’s will don white robes and wreaths of candles in honor of young Lucia.

Lucia symbolizes the coming end of the long winter nights and the return of light to the world.  Different stories and traditions surround St. Lucia, but all focus on the central themes of service and light. St. Lucia is celebrated in Sweden and throughout the world, and honored by many cultures.
