Kamehameha and Emma, King and Queen of Hawaii, 1863 and 1885

King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma strove to reform religion, health care, education, and the economy. They made repeated requests pledging resources for the establishment of a mission of the Church of England in the Kingdom of Hawai'i which had also been the wish of Kamehameha I.

The first Anglican Bishop of Hawai'i and other church missionaries arrived in October 1862. They established the church using prayer books translated by King Kamehameha IV, and opened schools for girls and boys.

Advent 1 - HOPE

Never give up. Eagerly follow the Holy Spirit and serve the Lord.

Let your hope make you glad. Be patient in time of trouble and never stop praying.

Take care of God's needy people and welcome strangers into your home.
