We plow the fields and scatter
The good seed on the land,
But it is fed and watered
By God’s almighty hand

A Prayer for our New Priest

The Rev. Laura Murray

Almighty and everlasting God,
from whom cometh every good and perfect gift:
Send down upon our rector,
and upon this congregation committed to her charge,
the healthful Spirit of thy grace;
and, that we may truly please thee,
pour upon us the continual dew of thy blessing.
Grant this, O Lord,
for the honor of our Advocate and Mediator, Jesus Christ.
Amen.

“Awakening An Ecological Spirituality Through Songs" as presented by Jim Couture, MA, MT-BC at the Harvard Divinity School's Program for the Evolution of Spirituality Inaugural Conference on "Ecological Spiritualities."

This presentation is meant as an introduction to songs that can deepen our ecological spirituality. There are quite a few Earth-related songs about our problems but we will discuss those focused on beauty and inspiration, the relationship and meaning between us humans, the planet we live on and the universe we live in.

A Note from Deacon Keith

People of St. Andrew's:

I am currently taking some time off between rectors/priests, while I adjust to my new job and while waiting on the Letter of Agreement between Reverend Murray, the Bishop and myself.

While I am resting, I am currently still active with the Wednesday Eucharist and the Saturday Order for Evening, but Sunday's off.

Presiding Bishop Michael Curry's statement on the mass shooting in Buffalo

My heart is heavy with the news that a white supremacist gunman took the lives of 10 children of God in Buffalo on Saturday. I grew up walking distance from the scene of this hateful crime, and my friends and I used to ride our bikes around the neighborhood. Buffalo’s Black community raised and formed me. I grieve with the city and people I love.

The loss of any human life is tragic, but there was deep racial hatred driving this shooting, and we have got to turn from the deadly path our nation has walked for much too long. Bigotry-based violence—any bigotry at all—against our siblings who are people of color, Jewish, Sikh, Asian, trans, or any other group, is fundamentally wrong. As baptized followers of Jesus of Nazareth, we are called to uphold and protect the dignity of every human child of God, and to actively uproot the white supremacy and racism deep in the heart of our shared life.

Please join me in prayer for the shattered families in Buffalo. Please also join me in expressing profound gratitude for the intervention by Buffalo police that likely saved many other lives. Even amid tragedy, even when manifestations of evil threaten to overwhelm, let us hold fast to the good. It is the only way that leads to life.
