A Prayer for our New Priest

The Rev. Laura Murray

O God, our heavenly Father, who raised up your faithful
servant Laura, to be pastor of our church and to
feed your flock: Give abundantly to her the gifts of
your Holy Spirit, that she may minister in your household as a
true servant  of Christ and steward  of your divine mysteries;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.

Wednesday, Worship

We will commemorate the life and contributions of Monica, mother of St. Augustine of Hippo, 387.

Our hope is in Christ and we must never lose hope. This is beautifully described in the verse by J.R.R. Tolkien from the Fellowship of the Rings:

“All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be King."

St. Monica prayer for her son, Augustine, for 17 years. She was discouraged, yet she persisted.

Matthew 22:34-40

 When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together,  and one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him.  Â“Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?”  He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment.  And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
