Through the struggles and tragedies she faced in life, she remained devout. She is the founder of the first Catholic schools in the United States and is the patron saint of Catholic schools, widows, and seafarers.  (https://www.womenshistory.org/education-resources/biographies/elizabeth-ann-seton)

Time to Break Down the Pop Up Warming Center!

The Pop Up Warming Center has done its job. Now we need a caravan, we have so much stuff to give away! On Wednesday, Jan 4, starting at 3 pm, I could use some help (weather allowing) to pack and deliver all the stuff we’ve collected for the Pop-Up Warming Center and get it down to TAFY (826 E 1st St, Port Angeles, WA 98362). If you can help with this (4 and all wheel drives only, unless everything has melted by then), then please e-mail me at
kdorwick@gmail.com  and let me know. E-mail is better than phone or text for this, with the subject “I Want to Be in a Caravan!” I will confirm. TAFY is willing and ready to take everything we collected. Thank you for your generosity!

Presiding Bishop Curry's Epiphany Address

[From The Episcopal Church Office of Public Affairs]
Join Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, Washington Bishop Mariann Budde, the Rev. Glenna Huber, and other local and national leaders for a livestreamed celebration of Epiphany, the season of light, from the Church of the Epiphany in Washington, D.C.

This Epiphany, we will proclaim that we recognize Christ alive and moving wherever people are looking, acting, and loving like JesusBishop Curry will invite Episcopalians to commit afresh to becoming vibrant, loving, healing, truth-telling embodiments of Jesus and his light—in our communities and in our nation.

The worship service will feature the witness and voice of a diversity of people who are the face of Christ—from ordained Episcopal ministers to unhoused people who are also leading the church. Artists will include Kory Caudill, composer and musical director for Concert for the Human Family, and Chanda Leigh Adeogba, lead musician for Imagine Church-Atlanta.

Bishop Curry also will offer a videotaped address to the nation later that day.

Join us live on this page, Thursday, Jan. 6, at noon Eastern, or on our Facebook page. Consider hosting a watch party and inviting friends and neighbors to join you online for the service.

Epiphany

The feast of the Epiphany is January 6th, twelve days after Christmas. It officially ends the “twelve days of Christmas” from which we get that carol “On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…”. In the Western churches (including the Episcopal Church), Epiphany celebrates the arrival of the Wise Men from the East to the Christ child in Bethlehem.

Epiphany means "manifestation" or "revelation" or "appearing". It makes sense that Epiphany season comes right after Christmas. Christmas is about the birth of Jesus; Epiphany is about the spread of the good news to the wider world.

The Feast of the Epiphany centers on the arrival of the Magi in Bethlehem. In the Christmas story that St. Matthew tells us, wise men from the East study the stars and the prophecies, and detect the birth of the Savior. They travel to Bethlehem to pay homage to Jesus Christ, and they bring with them gifts of frankincense, gold, and myrrh.
